3 Recipes to Try Now

When you’re in a rush, it can be tempting to choose the closest pre-made packaged food within an arm’s length. Our busy lives often cause us to place our health way down on our list of daily priorities. However, eating healthy can be easy….and quick. In my experience, it’s all about finding foods that I love to eat (such as specific fruits/veggies/grains, etc.) and searching for recipes or more often than not, just creating my own recipes with the foods I have at home. The following recipes I usually make for breakfast, but they are so versatile that they make a great snack or evening dessert. Continue reading “3 Recipes to Try Now”

Interviews: Why so scared?

The process of interviewing is not only fascinating to me, but fun. I used to be quite nervous of interviewing others- the typical fears of asking the wrong question, or forgetting what questions you were supposed to ask or just saying something stupid would always create a barrier between myself and the person I was trying to interview. But as the tried and true saying goes, “practice makes perfect,” I began to bury that fear.  I still get anxious before interviewing people. However, the more I’ve interviewed people, the more I see just how fascinating every individual is. We all have a story. That boy that sits across from you on the bus and doesn’t seem to talk to anyone? He’s started an organization to help endangered animals, or he’s won the spelling bee, or he’s built his own computer. Often we become so engrossed in ourselves that we don’t see past people’s appearances. But in looking further and asking questions, we can learn so much about others, and ultimately about ourselves. Protect Yo’self

Looking for sunscreens these days isn’t hard. But looking for natural sunscreens with limited chemicals can be harder- especially if you are trying to get as much product for your dollars as you can. Often, the more expensive “natural” sunscreens contain significantly less sunscreen than the cheaper, more-chemicals-added popular sunscreens. And when I say “natural,” these sunscreens may claim to be natural when they still contain harmful chemicals. Knowing ingredients and what added chemicals are harmful will be helpful in finding the right sunscreen. Recently I’ve been on the lookout for a more natural sunscreen that doesn’t break the college student’s bank account. While I haven’t found many natural/organic products at Walmart before, I came across this sunscreen brand called Hang Ten. Continue reading “Protect Yo’self”

Living With Gratitude- Day after Day

I recently read an article in the summer issue of Disfunkshion Magazine that talked about gratitude- why we need it along with some tips for living with gratitude. This article really resonated me and immediately I began writing in my journal – which was one of the tips –” keep a gratitude journal and end each day by taking note of three to five encounters you were appreciative for, that way you are able to go back and reconnect with those thankful feelings later on in life.” Continue reading “Living With Gratitude- Day after Day”

The “Follow-Me-I-Don’t-Follow-Back” Social Media Age: Why A Media Disconnection is Necessary

Image via miningaustralia.com.au

How many social media sites/apps are you on? Do you specifically make space on your phone just so that you can add the latest social app? After spending time on your social media account, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, do you find yourself feeling angry and jealous rather than happy and positive? Does your follower count stress you out? Do you ration who you follow just so that you don’t have an uneven or “socially unacceptable” ratio of followers-to-following? How much time do you spend per day/week/month on your social media? Have you ever gone out with friends/family and been more involved with checking how many people have liked your latest picture or with making sure your Snapchat is updated so that your friends know you “have a life” rather than paying attention to the people right in front of you? When was the last time you visited your local nature center, or took a walk at the beach or park, or struck up a conversation with the person next to you at the grocery store? When was the last time you took a run without listening to music? Continue reading “The “Follow-Me-I-Don’t-Follow-Back” Social Media Age: Why A Media Disconnection is Necessary”
