How To Make Larabar Energy Bars

Both my sister and I share a love for cooking and baking…and experimenting. My sister has to be one of the most creative masterminds when it comes to figuring out what to do with (at times random) ingredients. Last week we decided to whip up some energy bars. We’re big Larabar fans, so we were looking to make a treat that had a similar taste and texture. Larabars are known for being healthy as well as having minimal ingredients – which is awesome. Some of the bars I’ve eaten have only had three ingredients. Seems kinda crazy when most packaged foods have 20+ ingredients (most of them being chemicals) ! So if you are looking for a super delicious raw energy bar, then keep on reading, because these bars are tried and tested, and pass the “super delicious raw energy bar” food test…if there is a test for that.  Continue reading “How To Make Larabar Energy Bars”

3 Recipes to Try Now

When you’re in a rush, it can be tempting to choose the closest pre-made packaged food within an arm’s length. Our busy lives often cause us to place our health way down on our list of daily priorities. However, eating healthy can be easy….and quick. In my experience, it’s all about finding foods that I love to eat (such as specific fruits/veggies/grains, etc.) and searching for recipes or more often than not, just creating my own recipes with the foods I have at home. The following recipes I usually make for breakfast, but they are so versatile that they make a great snack or evening dessert. Continue reading “3 Recipes to Try Now”

Hidden Heart Valentine’s Day Cupcakes

The Bohemian Mermaid

Every holiday we look forward to the abundance of different themes and delightful treats that come. Some stores start preparing months or weeks in advance before days like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Brightly colored candy, cookies, and gifts line row after row of the shelves. Valentine’s Day is no exception, as there are over thousands of candy and chocolate products sold leading up to this holiday. If you find yourself tired of the same old chocolate candy piece or heart-shaped sugar cookie then it may be time for a change this Valentine’s Day. Why not break the routine and hone your fancy cupcake baking skills while also making a dessert that will cause your friends to scratch their heads wondering just how you managed to make it. How to Make the Perfect Açai Bowl

You’ve heard about açai bowls before. You’ve probably seen pictures on Instagram or Twitter of people boasting about the delicious food they are about to eat. And you have probably craved one, even though you are not sure what an “açai bowl” is or even what “açai” is , let alone how to pronounce açai (it’s pronounced ah-sigh-EE. Yes, it’s such a fun word to say you might as well say it again).

Student on a Budget: Quick Two-Ingredient Cookies

When you can’t afford to bake foods that require multiple ingredients and when you want a more nutritious and satisfying snack, try some of these cookies that only require two ingredients! yes- just two! Bananas and oats…what a great combo with endless possibilities. This recipe makes about four cookies, so if you want more to have during the week as a post-workout food or just a snack to bring to class, than I would recommend doubling the ingredients.

Healthy Spin on Halloween Treats

As Halloween festivities take place tonight and this weekend, I thought I would share some adorable, yummy, and HEALTHY treats I recently saw. Though you may not be able to make these tonight, let the pictures inspire you for upcoming holidays, or to make anytime of the year. These treats are such a healthy alternative to the heavy influx of sugars and processed treats that are so prevalent during Halloween. I think these treats would be so fun to make and decorate specifically for Thanksgiving or Christmas parties. I’m sure people would be surprised at the fact that these treats are mostly made of fruits and veggies! (All pictures/recipes from Kayla Itsines website)
