When traveling abroad, I try to avoid any chain restaurants, especially American restaurants. The last thing I want to do is go all the way to a new country, and only eat foods I can easily have in my own country. And in my opinion, tasting new foods is one of the best ways to experience a culture! However, there do come times when you realize you’ve only got small change and there are no ATMs in sight, or you crave some sugary, terrible-for-you fast food from home. In times like these, you cave and enter the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts/ Burger King/ McDonalds. Here’s what you’re missing (or not missing), at several of these places in India… Continue reading “Trying American restaurants in India “

I had read it was a worthwhile experience to watch a movie at a movie theater in India. Watching movies in other countries is not what I typically think of doing while traveling, but I figured India must have an interesting theater livelihood, especially with Bollywood being such an integral part of daily life in this country.

When it comes to traveling, there are pretty much only two options – traveling solo, or traveling with friends. Though there are definitely great benefits to both, some people naturally fit better in one of the two categories. I recently saw the amazing opportunities that solo traveling brings when I was in Costa Rica for the month of January (I’ll be detailing more of what it’s like to solo travel in a following post!), but I’ll always be up for a group trip with friends. How many social media sites/apps are you on? Do you specifically make space on your phone just so that you can add the latest social app? After spending time on your social media account, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, do you find yourself feeling angry and jealous rather than happy and positive? Does your follower count stress you out? Do you ration who you follow just so that you don’t have an uneven or “socially unacceptable” ratio of followers-to-following? How much time do you spend per day/week/month on your social media? Have you ever gone out with friends/family and been more involved with checking how many people have liked your latest picture or with making sure your Snapchat is updated so that your friends know you “have a life” rather than paying attention to the people right in front of you? When was the last time you visited your local nature center, or took a walk at the beach or park, or struck up a conversation with the person next to you at the grocery store? When was the last time you took a run without listening to music? Continue reading “The “Follow-Me-I-Don’t-Follow-Back” Social Media Age: Why A Media Disconnection is Necessary”

I’ve found that scrolling through Twitter and Instagram can not only be a source of entertainment, but can also be a great opportunity to find meaningful quotes. Being quite interested in photography, I’m always analyzing and critiquing photos on Instagram. I’m also that person who reads the whole photo caption, so I can (a). understand why someone posted that picture or (b). stumble upon a new quote. So here are a few of the quotes I have found recently. Enjoy:
