I just watched (like literally just finished watching) a TED Talk about a girl named Lauren who has significantly reduced the amount of trash that she “produces” every day. It’s pretty awesome and I thought I would share it. Though some say she’s “extreme,” I think she has some great tips – especially in terms of DIY body products like toothpaste, shampoos, soaps, lotion. Continue reading ““Why I Live A Zero Waste Life””

Protect Yo’self
Looking for sunscreens these days isn’t hard. But looking for natural sunscreens with limited chemicals can be harder- especially if you are trying to get as much product for your dollars as you can. Often, the more expensive “natural” sunscreens contain significantly less sunscreen than the cheaper, more-chemicals-added popular sunscreens. And when I say “natural,” these sunscreens may claim to be natural when they still contain harmful chemicals. Knowing ingredients and what added chemicals are harmful will be helpful in finding the right sunscreen. Recently I’ve been on the lookout for a more natural sunscreen that doesn’t break the college student’s bank account. While I haven’t found many natural/organic products at Walmart before, I came across this sunscreen brand called Hang Ten. Continue reading “Protect Yo’self”
The “Follow-Me-I-Don’t-Follow-Back” Social Media Age: Why A Media Disconnection is Necessary

How many social media sites/apps are you on? Do you specifically make space on your phone just so that you can add the latest social app? After spending time on your social media account, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, do you find yourself feeling angry and jealous rather than happy and positive? Does your follower count stress you out? Do you ration who you follow just so that you don’t have an uneven or “socially unacceptable” ratio of followers-to-following? How much time do you spend per day/week/month on your social media? Have you ever gone out with friends/family and been more involved with checking how many people have liked your latest picture or with making sure your Snapchat is updated so that your friends know you “have a life” rather than paying attention to the people right in front of you? When was the last time you visited your local nature center, or took a walk at the beach or park, or struck up a conversation with the person next to you at the grocery store? When was the last time you took a run without listening to music? Continue reading “The “Follow-Me-I-Don’t-Follow-Back” Social Media Age: Why A Media Disconnection is Necessary”

Hot Yoga- My First Class and Some Tips for Beginners

Yesterday I participated in a hot yoga class for the first time. I was excited yet nervous. The fact that I would be attempting to do yoga in an approximately 100+ degree room was somewhat terrifying. What if I overheated and died? Yes, that was a valid question to me. What if the heat was too much for me and I could barely do the yoga poses? What if I looked stupid?

How to Make the Perfect Açai Bowl
You’ve heard about açai bowls before. You’ve probably seen pictures on Instagram or Twitter of people boasting about the delicious food they are about to eat. And you have probably craved one, even though you are not sure what an “açai bowl” is or even what “açai” is , let alone how to pronounce açai (it’s pronounced ah-sigh-EE. Yes, it’s such a fun word to say you might as well say it again).

Tips For Combating Stress
As school exams and the holidays quickly approach, stress becomes more prevalent. Trying to balance social time with visiting friends and family while trying to studying for final exams can be overwhelming, to say the least. Everyone experiences stress in varying levels but how we react to stress differs. We can let stress consume our thoughts, emotions, and actions, or we can take control of the stress. Below are a few tips I use when I notice how stressed I have been. These tips may or may not work exactly like how they did for me, but they can be worth a shot if you find yourself overloaded with stress. Continue reading “Tips For Combating Stress”
Student on a Budget: Quick Two-Ingredient Cookies
When you can’t afford to bake foods that require multiple ingredients and when you want a more nutritious and satisfying snack, try some of these cookies that only require two ingredients! yes- just two! Bananas and oats…what a great combo with endless possibilities. This recipe makes about four cookies, so if you want more to have during the week as a post-workout food or just a snack to bring to class, than I would recommend doubling the ingredients.

Healthy Spin on Halloween Treats
As Halloween festivities take place tonight and this weekend, I thought I would share some adorable, yummy, and HEALTHY treats I recently saw. Though you may not be able to make these tonight, let the pictures inspire you for upcoming holidays, or to make anytime of the year. These treats are such a healthy alternative to the heavy influx of sugars and processed treats that are so prevalent during Halloween. I think these treats would be so fun to make and decorate specifically for Thanksgiving or Christmas parties. I’m sure people would be surprised at the fact that these treats are mostly made of fruits and veggies! (All pictures/recipes from Kayla Itsines website)
Yummy Pumpkin Cookies (That Actually Melt In Your Mouth)
So my food photos are usually somewhat lacking, especially compared to those who have blogs dedicated solely to posting delicious desserts or meals. I have to admit, I’m so eager to eat the food I make that I usually don’t have the patience to arrange the food nicely on a plate or make sure the amount of almonds or sprinkles or berries look picturesque for a photo. Or, I decide to do some late night cooking or baking or smoothie-making and I’ve lost the great natural sunlight and have to settle for my somewhat depressing, overly yellow-tinged kitchen light. However, I decided to dedicate some nice photos (with the setting sun to illuminate the cookies) to the following recipe because these are some of my all time FAVORITE cookies ever. And the title of the recipe doesn’t lie- these cookies actually melt in your mouth! Seriously, if you haven’t had any pumpkin yet this fall season (shame on you!) than you must make these. Or if you think you have had way to much pumpkin already, you need to re-evaluate and try this recipe because it is so so so good- I promise!
